As a type A triathlete type, I cannot even start to tell you how some of the business practices made me crazy. Then imagining having to MANAGE 8-10 yoga instructors.

I taught hot yoga and while people weren't as skimpy as official Bikram, there were all ranges of "Dressed."

Also, farting is totally allowed in yoga. In my training class, one girl nicknamed herself Wind-Relieving (pavanamuktasana)...after there were several incidents that left us in fits of laughter.

I also had to do my best to keep a straight face when I had a student ask me the purpose of pavanamuktasana.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08825483817580246748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6310226120878180051.post-24059011001516146922013-03-15T17:28:36.314-07:002013-03-15T17:28:36.314-07:00This blog post was classic. I have a DVD from Sage Rountree, who specializes in that (she's also written books on yoga for athletes, yoga for runners, and an athlete's guide to recovery, and has classes streaming on yogavibes.com). Since she's an athlete (runner, ultrarunner, triathlete) herself, and a coach, as well as a yoga instructor, she has a great perspective and lots of ideas for how yoga can support endurance athletes and cautions about what asanas and types of yoga might not be as useful/appropriate or when to do what. I've found her routines very helpful and you can check out the podcasts w/ slide show for free. sagerountree.com (I have no personal/financial interest in her efforts, I just have liked her best of all I've tried, sharing in case it helps anyone). I've been doing yoga once a week for the last few months, I still suck at it...my stretchy pants friend, one week, was so intent on over helping me that I finally blurted out "Ok already! I do wear my little plaid Lululemon running shorts so I feel like a fit in. I'm waiting to be kicked out of class for cussing after each pose, though. And, for sweating way too much. Even considered taking sCaps! with me to class to keep everything square. Still waiting for the instructor to tell me I'm not doing the poses correct. Heck, I can't even get into many of the poses since I'm so tight. I'll just snap back and say, "yeah?! how 'bout you join me on my next weekend run and then we'll talk!". But that is just my inner fantasy talking. :)Larryhttp://livingalifefully.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6310226120878180051.post-30397193869774859022013-02-02T05:04:49.009-08:002013-02-02T05:04:49.009-08:00I laughed out loud, and my husband is reading, bec...I laughed out loud, and my husband is reading, because he is so totally there with you! Although I got to say, I inspect my non-existent toenails every class in certain poses and occasionally try and pick some skin off the empty beds of those. And don't even tell me about cellulite! On the other hand, since I am in "official" hot yoga - Bikram - everyone but a random dude in running shorts wears near to nothing, including speedo's and one-piece swim suits. I stick to yoga shorts and running bra though - what allows me to also heck out my flab on the stomach. Rock on!Olgahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00493291972954387932noreply@blogger.com
